On behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction, CRDF Global is pleased to host a virtual training to equip private sector compliance officers; insurers; regulators; and security, customs, and other government agencies with tools to leverage open-source information to investigate and disrupt proliferator state efforts to gain access to advanced conventional weapons (ACW). As a result of this training, partners will enhance their capacities to prevent ACW and arms-related technology transactions with proliferator states by empowering their staff with the knowledge and tools needed to conduct more efficient due diligence screening on these transactions.

As disinformation around public health issues has become more prevalent, journalists and media professionals must navigate a complex information environment to report effectively about public health crises like COVID-19. In this remote training, CRDF Global, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, will provide journalist stakeholders with the skills and strategies to properly identify and counter disinformation around health security issues. A combination of pre-recorded training modules and live webinars will equip participants with tools to understand state-based narratives, identify disinformation campaigns and its sources, know where to find credible sources, and understand the methods used to assess and counter disinformation.
CRDF Global is pleased to invite you to a virtual training course on Countering Disinformation that Undermines Nonproliferation Norms. State actors spread false narratives to erode international nonproliferation norms, undermine trust in the institutions that uphold them, and evade attribution and accountability for their own illicit development and use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This training will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of state-sponsored disinformation campaigns and the skills to identify and counter the spread of false narratives on topics related to WMD. Experts in disinformation, open-source research, audience analysis, and WMD will deliver presentations on topics including:
- The role of disinformation in states’ geopolitical strategies
- The specific and heightened risk of WMD-focused disinformation
- Strategies for reporting on WMD-relevant events and disinformation
- Best practices for engaging policymakers and experts in the aftermath of a WMD crisis
- Open-source research methods to identify parties responsible for spreading WMD-related disinformation
- Tools for conducting audience analysis
This training course will consist of two components:
1. The first component of the training will be a series of recorded expert presentations. Please watch these prior to the second component of the training. The recordings are hosted on this Moodle site.
2. The second component of the training will be a live webinar (see sessions below) with leading experts in nonproliferation and countering disinformation. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance or pose them during the live event.
Participants who view all pre-recorded modules, engage with fellow participants and experts in the online discussion forum, and attend the live webinar will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion.
Participants who have any inquiries or require any accessibility accommodations with attending the training may email astowe-thurston@crdfglobal.org to request assistance while registering.
